A teenage mum and her one-year-old daughter are fighting for their after being mown down in a horror hit-and-run. Emergency services raced to the scene in Cobridge, Staffs., just before 8.30pm last night to treat the 17-year-old and her baby. The silver car that hit them was travelling towards nearby Burslem and drove away from the scene in the direction of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.
Both the mother and her daughter were rushed to hospital with what police have described as life-threatening injuries. A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said it sent two ambulances, two basics doctors and a paramedic support officer to the horrific accident. She said: “We had two patients, a mother and a baby. The baby suffered a suspected head injury. We took both patients to Royal University Hospital and a doctor travelled with each patient.”
A Staffordshire Police spokesman added: “We are appealing for witnesses after a serious road traffic collision in Stoke-on-Trent last night. Following the collision, the vehicle made off from the location in the Hanley direction. Officers also want to trace the driver of a black Audi who may be a witness to the incident.” The road was closed for several hours following the accident.
