A young woman is fighting for her life after her fiancé allegedly poured petrol over her and set her on fire. Nicole Evans, 20, is in a critical condition after suffering severe burns to her face and body.
Her groom-to-be Matthew John Davey, 34, has appeared in court charged with grievous bodily harm. The alleged attack took place in Chigwell, northern Hobart, Australia, at around 11pm on Monday night. Nicole was rushed to Royal Hobart Hospital and later flown to The Alfred Hospital’s burns unit in Melbourne for specialist care.
The burns are understood to be full thickness and cover 50 per cent of her body. A police spokesman said the alleged attack is being treated as a domestic incident. He said: “The dispute is being treated as a family violence incident, although there are no current family violence orders restricting the man and woman from being together.” Mr Davey pleaded not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm during a short court hearing and will appear in court again on June 13.
