A woman who was abandoned as a baby got the shock of her life when she went in search of her long-lost mother and found out that she had married her OWN BROTHER.
Brazilian couple Adriana, 39 and 37 year-old Leandro, 37, have been together for seven years and also have a six-year-old daughter. The couple have both been individually looking for their respective mothers after they were abandoned as babies; although both their mothers were called Maria, it is not an unusual name in Brazil.
However, this week they have discovered that they were both searching for the same woman. Adriana, who works as a cosmetics saleswoman, was left on her own with her father aged just one, when her mother walked out. Lorry-driver Leandro found out aged eight that the woman he loved as his mother was actually his step-mother and his biological mother had left the home years before.
The anguished pair met ten years ago after Adriana divorced her first husband; they fell in love, she moved back to her home town in Sao Paulo and married Leandro. However, Adriana was still determined to trace her mother and asked a local radio station for help; her mother was traced and the tow were reunited in a live broadcast.
The bombshell was dropped at the end of the interview when Adriana’s mother revealed she had a long-lost son as well, Leandro. It becomes obvious that she is talking about Leandro, and Adriana was heard live on air breaking down and weeping: “I don’t believe that you’re telling me this. Leandro is my husband.” As the live programme ended, a distraught Adriana was heard sobbing: “Now I’m scared to go home and find out that Leandro doesn’t want me any more. I love him so much.”
Since the broadcast, Adriana and Leandro have said they are determined to remain together: “Only death is going to separate us. All this happened because God wanted it to happen. Of course it would have been different if we had known all this before, but we didn’t and we fell in love. We thought it was funny that both our mothers had the same name, but it is a common name so we just thought it was a coincidence. At first we were really knocked by it all. But we had a family meeting and told everyone that we are going to stay husband and wife, whatever anyone might think. We have so many plans together, nothing’s going to break us up, nothing.”
