The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning with a prediction of heavy rains across the UK this afternoon.
The Met Office Yellow Warning has been issued as nearly two inches of torrential rain is likely to fall across parts of the UK in the next few hours. An “unstable and moist flow” provides the basis for “intense showers.” The lack of wind means that the showers will take longer to clear, prolonging the rainy misery.
According to the Met Office forecast: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms, already scattered across some western areas, will become more widespread during the day.” Although the rain will drift Eastwards by early evening, people should prepare for flash flooding.
“The public should be aware of the risk of localised surface water flooding, with the added hazard of lightning in some areas,” the Met Office warned.
