This video, captured by a station CCTV system, shows the shocking moment a mother lets go of her buggy, only for it to roll off the platform and land face-down on the train tracks.
The incident occurred at Camberwell Station in Melbourne. The woman pushing the buggy is seen dropping something; when she takes her hands off her pushchair to retrieve the dropped item, she does not see the buggy rolling away towards the edge of the platform.
The pushchair, with her toddler strapped inside, pitches over the platform edge and on to the tracks. The woman quickly realises what has happened and jumps down onto the tracks. A passenger on the opposite platform dashes across the tracks to assist her in getting the buggy back onto the platform before the arrival of any train.
The woman reportedly refused medical treatment for her son at the station, explained that she would take him to hospital herself. The police were called and officers reported they found the boy on a station street with a couple who were under the influence of alcohol.
The child was taken to Box Hill Hospital, where doctors said he had only suffered minor facial injuries. The police are not taking the matter any further and no arrests have been made.
