Two cops were rushed to hospital after their police car was involved in a “serious collision” in Manchester. A marked police car collided with a black Mercedes C200 just before 3.30am on Liverpool Road in Salford, Greater Manchester. Ambulance crews attended the scene and took two police officers and the driver of the Mercedes to hospital.
Pictures from the scene show a mangled metal railing and the crumpled and battered police car. Police arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and for driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
He is currently in police custody for questioning. It is not known if two or three cars were involved in the incident. One officer has since been released from hospital and the other is in a “stable condition”.
Sergeant Helen Hallworth of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We have launched an extensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision and I’m appealing for anyone with information to get in touch. We have arrested a man in connection with the incident but need the public’s help to continue with our investigation.”
