Two children aged 13 and 15 are being held after the death of a 42 year-old father.
The police are questioning the 13 year-old boy and 15 year-old girl after emergency services were called to the man’s home after he sustained severe head injuries on Thursday morning. The man was airlifted to Nottingham Hospital, but died from his injuries in hospital.
The man, a father-of-two, is believed to have been killed while his 12 year-old son slept in the room next door. The arrested pair, who are both over the age of criminality, are believed to have broken in to the house, an end-of-terrace property in Spalding, Lincolnshire.
A witness, 85 year-old neighbour, Gena Probert, said: “I saw him dragged out on a stretcher. I couldn’t make out his face, he was that badly beaten. He was a sweet man.”
Another neighbour, who asked not to be identified, said: “He lived with his son. It’s terrible to think he was there in the house when his dad got attacked. [The] poor lad would be traumatised.”
The house in which the attack occurred is close to a popular skate park which is frequented by teenagers. Police Inpsector Jim Tyner said: “My officers will be carrying out extra patrols in the area.”
