On X Factor, she’s middle-aged rapper Honey G, who never steps out without sunglasses, cap and some form of metallic clothing. But in real life Anna Gilford is a middle-class, former competitive tennis player from Harrow, who has a masters degree in management and runs her own recruitment company. And after her appearance on the first live X Factor – she’s got millions of viewers wondering if she’s for real.
On her LinkedIn profile, 35-year-old Anna is unrecognisable as the manager of recruitment firm ARG Search Ltd who has spent more than a decade working in IT. Gilford is also described as a tennis champion and an avid netball player. Her interests are listed as windsurfing, skiing, boxing, spinning, swimming and running.
The only hint to her new career as a rapper is her claim to have a degree in “popular music and recording”. Honey G, who is in Sharon Osbourne’s over-25s category, has sparked speculation that she is not genuine because of her awkward dance moves and attempts at street slang.Honey G denies that she is pretending, insisting: “There is nothing fake about me. I know some people have been saying they don’t think I’m real and that I’m a prank that’s been set up by the producers, but those haters need to check themselves because I am the finished article.” What do you think?
