A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a five-year-old boy after an ‘incident involving a man in the company of a child’ in a city park.
Police were called to a hospital in south London on Monday at around 1:45am after the youngster was admitted with critical head injuries. The boy sadly died on Tuesday afternoon. A man was arrested and subsequently charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. A post-mortem was held today.
Detective Chief Inspector Tony Lynes, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are appealing to find any witnesses who were in, or near to, Mountsfield Park, Catford … and are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything regarding an incident involving a man in the company of a child.”
