Last night’s Take Me Out was dedicated to the late Charlie Watkins, who joined the show as a contestant but died during filming. Taking to Twitter before Charlie’s episode, Paddy wrote: “Tonight’s Take Me Out is in memory of Charlie. A fantastic lad who I’m sure will be greatly missed by his wonderful friends & family. RIP.”
Charlie, 22, was a criminology student at the University of York with a huge group of friends and a lively social life. His twin brother Harry led the tributes on Facebook, posting a picture of the two of them dressed in dinner suits with a beam on their faces. “Words cannot express my feelings, but I feel this picture sums us up perfectly xx,” he wrote next to it.In his Take Me Out VT, Charlie claimed to be a descendant of Lord Nelson and described himself as a “bit of a big kid” who loved reading comics and playing video games. He also worked at a chocolate factory when not at university and made the audience laugh when he revealed his work colleagues called him ‘Ben’ as he’d lost his own name badge.
