A boy of eight was killed and his mum seriously injured when a fire broke-out at their home. The victims were named by neighbours as Kelly-Ann Carter, 35, and her son Lucas. Paramedics desperately tried to save the youngster, who was found by fire crews in the upstairs of the home, but he died later in hospital .
His mum was found outside the semi-detached home with serious burns. A friend of the family said: “Kelly-Anne will be absolutely devastated by the death of her son. He was her only child and she was totally devoted to him. Lucas was a beautiful baby when he was born and he had grown up to be a handsome and kind boy. He had a lovely nature.”
It is understood the single mum and her son had moved into the house in Sandbach, Cheshire, about six months ago. The emergency services arrived at the scene at 2.52am this morning.
Lucas and his mum were taken to Leighton Hospital in Crewe, where she remains in a stable condition. A spokesman for Cheshire police said: “The cause of the fire, which has since been extinguished, is currently unknown and a full investigation has been launched.”
