A 22 month-old toddler was killed in his own garden in tragic circumstances on Friday night.
Little Joshua Coyle was playing in the garden of his home on a quiet country lane when he was struck by a van. The toddler was rushed to Letterkenny General Hospital, but was sadly pronounced dead a short while later.
The accident happened in Crieve Glebe in Letterkenny in County Donegal. It is understood that Joshua’s parents, Alex Coyle and Susanna Mangan, have two other children. They are being comforted by friends and family at their home.
A post-mortem was carried out yesterday and little Joshua’s remains will be transported back to his parents’ house for a wake. The police forensics team carried out a series of investigations yesterday, but as yet no arrest has been made.
Gerry McMonagle, a local county councillor spoke of the the local community’s numbness at the loss: “Any loss of life in such circumstances is tragic but when it happens to a young child it is even more painful. As a grandfather myself I was shocked when I heard this news and my heart goes out to the parents and relatives of this little boy.”
