Thorpe Park Makes Shock Decision After Death Of Schoolgirl At Splash Canyon At Drayton Manor

Tragic Evha Jannath, 11, fell off the Splash Canyon attraction and ‘was dragged under the water by the currents’, according to witnesses, while on a school trip on Tuesday. Young Evha, from Leicester, lost her life after being rushed to hospital by air ambulance.

Yesterday Thorpe Park in Surrey announced that its Rumba Rapids ride – which is similar to Drayton Manor’s Splash Canyon – will no longer be in operation. It said it was closing it “as a precaution” – until more is known “about yesterday’s events”.

Health and Safety Executive officers are continuing their investigation into the death of Evha – as the whole of Drayton Manor in Staffordshire remains closed to the public. Her family issued a statement this morning saying: “Yesterday our world was torn apart by the news that our daughter and sister Evha, had lost her life in tragic circumstances, following a school trip to Drayton Manor Park. Evha was a beautiful little girl who was full of love and always smiling.”
