Britain is about to bake in the hottest weekend of the year so far with temperatures set to peak at 23C on Sunday. The unusually warm weather shows no signs of cooling down with sunshine and blue skies forecast in the coming days.

Largely fine, dry and warm weather will hold out at least until the middle of next week as Britain turns hotter than Mallorca, Spain, and Nice in the south of France. Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge said a plume of warm air from the continent will send thermometers rocketing.

Most of the country will enjoy almost summer-like conditions. Exacta Weather’s James Madden said: “High pressure will dominate proceedings throughout this week and this will bring an extended spell of settled and warm weather with prolonged periods of sunshine for many.”
