Spectators were horrified when a woman’s bungee cord broke during a 140ft fall sending her plummeting into the water below. Thrill-seeker Yoo, 29, jumped from a 140ft high platform in Chuncheon, South Korea. But, the cord failed, leaving her to plunge into five metres of water below.
Yoo suffered severe head, neck and chest injuries and required hospital treatment for a month. She told police: ”There was no rebound from the rope I was attached to and I fell straight down into the water below. ‘The employee made me jump despite not securing the rope to a safety hook.”
Cops checked the footage and arrested the man who was operating the attraction when the accident happened on September 14. He was charged with professional negligence which resulted in the injury. A spokesman for the attraction claimed that the bungee rope had been fastened but it came loose.
They said: “Our employee did, in fact, fasten the rope to the hook but the screws came loose, and Yoo fell after the rope rebounded once.”
