Families with young children were forced to cower in terror inside a pub as a vicious knife and hammer battle exploded just metres away outside. The horrified families were enjoying a Saturday afternoon with pals when the horrific brawl erupted outside the Robin Hood pub in Swinton.
Brave staff immediately jumped into action and locked the doors shut – keeping everyone inside safe. The incident on Saturday afternoon prompted dozens of police to flood into the area. A GMP spokesman added: “Further police enquiries are continuing.”
One mum, who was in the Manchester Road venue at the time, told the Manchester Evening News : “I just heard the commotion and one of the ladies who worked there ran over to lock the doors. There were lots of young lads on the car park and the staff were saying they had knives and they rang the police.”
Another patron, writing on Facebook, said: “It all kicked off. Loads of lads were fighting. They had hammers, etc. It was really scary especially when we had five young children with us and some (of the lads) were trying to get inside.”
