A gap-year teenager plunged 150 feet to his death from his top floor apartment in Australia the day after telling an ex-girlfriend he planned to jump off a balcony – an inquest heard. Kieran Jones, from Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancs, was inside his 16th floor flat at 3am following a party when friends say he unexpectedly fell over the top of the balcony rail.
The 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene in the Pyrmont suburb of Sydney after desperate attempts to resuscitate him. An inquest into his death heard Kieran had been battling depression for some time and had a history of self-harm. He told an ex girlfriend he was going to jump off a balcony and left similar messages on his computer in the 24 hours before his death on January 28.
Acting Inspector Peter Northey told an Australian newspaper Kieran had been drinking with flatmates at a party before they all returned home together and the teenager stepped out onto the balcony. He said the flatmates heard a noise and discovered Kieran had fallen; they attempted CPR, but Kieran could not be saved.
