A teenager was bitten so badly by her jealous boyfriend she thought her lip had COME OFF.
Rhys Culley was so insecure about what his girlfriend was doing while he was at work he tried to disfigure her. Culley had been in a relationship with Chanttelle Ward for over two years, but after a night out at a local pub, Culley became overwhelmed with jealousy over a Facebook conversation his girlfriend had had with another man earlier that month.
Culley seized Chanttelle’s mobile phone and discovered that she had deleted the messages. Then Culley went berserk; he kicked and punched his girlfriend, pulling her hair. He violently pushed her into furniture and threw objects at her, before he inflicted the most shocking would of all.
The 23 year-old asked the teenager if she loved him and then sank his teeth into her lip. Miss Ward told the court, where Culley was on trial for wounding with intent:
“He put his whole mouth around my lips and pulled, I thought that my whole lip had come off. There was blood everywhere.”
Emma Dowling for the prosecution told Newcastle Crown Court that Culley: “rubbed his face in hers, smearing the blood across her face and then he stuck his tongue into her mouth.” She also explained that Culley bit down with the same force that would be needed to bite through a piece of rubber one centimetre thick. Jurors at the court were shown pictures of livid teeth marks around Miss Ward’s mouth and heard a description of the bruising and scratches she sustained on her head and body.
Culley denied wounding with intent, but the jury disagreed and he was found guilty at his trial. He has been remanded in custody until his sentencing next month; the judge said Culley’s “sentence will inevitably be custody.”
