17 year-old Eilish Herron was killed at a petrol pump at an Asda petrol station in Linwood yesterday.

The teenager died at the scene after she was hit by a Ford Focus while re-fuelling her Renault Clio at about 2.30pm yesterday afternoon.

Eilish Herron was named as Renfrewshire’s Young Sports Person of the Year for her netball playing and coaching. Her club, Paisley Netball Club, hailed her as a “star player” and a spokesperson said her team were “devastated” by her death: “We can’t take it in. She was the most bubbly, helpful, attractive and enthusiastic girl.

“Nothing was too much trouble for her. She was a tremendous player and an incredible coach and she was a wonderful ambassador for the sport. She has so many friends, who will be devastated. Her family should be very proud that she was such an amazing young woman.”

The male driver of the Ford Focus was not injured in the collision. The police are continuing to investigate the incident and have said a that a report will be prepared for the procurator fiscal and submitted in due course.
