A teacher has been killed in front of horrified students in a suspected “murder-suicide” after a gunman opened fire in a classroom injuring two children. The shooter fatally shot the female teacher with a pistol before wounding two pupils and turning the gun on himself at North Park School in San Bernardino, California, police said.
The two children, who have not been identified but authorities say were not targeted, were airlifted to hospital and remain in a critical condition. Police said they were not related to either of the dead adults. Detectives are working to establish the relationship between the gunman and the woman but it is believed to have stemmed from a “domestic dispute”.Gunshots were heard just after 10.30am today and emergency services rushed to the scene. Authorities said one of those killed was a teacher and the other was the suspected shooter. Police are continuing to secure the area however, officers believe “the threat is down”. The other 600 students at the school, who are aged between 5 and 12, were taken to the nearby high school for safety.
