Britain is just 24 hours away from another major summer heatwave with sweltering temperatures and scorching sunshine forecast until September. Summer stuttered last over the weekend as the tail end of a European monsoon caused the mercury to plummet and torrential rain to fall throughout the UK.
Now tropical heat pouring into the country is sending temperatures soaring again, with highs in the low 30Cs expected by the end of the week in parts. Weather models show thermometers could hit 33C in southern England and Wales by Friday putting Britain back on heatwave alert.
Long-range forecasts indicate temperatures will remain above-average for the rest of summer with heatwaves until September. Netweather’s Jo Farrow said: “After a fresher feeling start to the week, heat and humidity returns, especially in the south with the threat of heavy downpours.“Greater London could reach into the low 30Cs again.”
