Hurricane Gert “could bring summer back to the UK” by disrupting the jet stream and diverting warm weather to the UK, forecasters say. Meteorologists reckon the category-one storm will weaken as it crosses the Atlantic and encourage warm air from Europe to move northwards.
Forecasters predict that will produce clear skies, glorious sunshine and a return to summer-like temperatures. It could even reach 27C in London and the South East on Monday and the warmer weather is set to last all week.
Nicky Maxey of the Met Office said: “There is an indication that once we see Gert pass through, we may start to see high pressure building over the UK … But it’s beginning to look that we may look forward to warmer, more settled, conditions next week.”
