EastEnders is killing off the woman Mick Carter thought was his mum for most of his life. Dementia sufferer Sylvie Carter, who later turned out to be Mick’s grandmother when Shirley was revealed to be his real mum, exits next month. But bosses are keeping tight-lipped over whether her death is linked to her Alzheimer’s or caused by something else altogether.

Linda Marlowe, 76, joined in 2014 to play the red-headed mother (gran) to Danny Dyer ’s Mick plus Tina (Luisa Bradshaw-White) and Shirley (Linda Henry). It transpired she had walked out on the family, abandoning her kids until she reappeared needing their help. She arrived in Albert Square having annoyed residents at her care home and kind-hearted Tina vowed she would be looked after.

But Mick chucked Sylvie out after discovering Shirley was his mum and learning she pushed Shirley down the stairs when she was pregnant with him to try to make her miscarry. Earlier this week, members of the Carter family were spotted filming her funeral at Hendon Crematorium in North West London. One show insider said: “Sylvie has had a long battle with dementia but the way she dies may come as a surprise.”
