Snow alerts and flood warnings have been issued as freezing downpours and sub zero temperatures sweep across the UK – and it is not predicted to heat up anytime soon.

Four yellow ‘be aware’ snow warnings were issued by the national weather service at 4am this morning and the Environment Agency also issued six flood warnings for the south west of the country and 3 for Wales. As temperatures plunge below zero, widespread frosts are predicted which could bring travel chaos.

It comes as Storm Ewan powered into Ireland this week, bringing snow, freezing gales and Arctic temperatures just days after Storm Doris caused widespread chaos. Britain is facing the coldest March in years with forecasters warning of wintry weather until May.
