Parents have slammed Sky News presenter Kay Burley for ruining Christmas. Angry mums and dads have taken to social media to fume after the often-controversial journalist “ruined” the festive period for “thousands of kids”.
Kay was compared to the Grinch by some – after suggesting Santa wasn’t real live on air. Making the remark during a segment on shopping, Kay had asked consumer expert Harry Wallop how old his kids were. And after he replied that they were 14 and 11, she dropped the bombshell.
Kay’s guest looked taken aback as the veteran newsreader quipped: “At that age they both believe in Father Christmas so they know that you’re not buying it for them. It sparked an immediate backlash from parents – with some claiming their kids had heard the broadcast and were questioning the very existence of Saint Nick.
Grant Anderson said: “Thanks for ruining the illusion of Santa Clause for thousands of kids.” Another upset viewer added: “Thanks for admitting that Santa isn’t real live on TV in front of my kids. Good job, real good job.”
