A woman in her 20s was rushed to hospital after she was brutally attacked with a machete.
It is understood a number of people damaged a car before hurling a machete at the woman at around 9.45pm on Friday evening in Eyrecourt, Galway. The woman, who was an occupant of the car, was taken to hospital.
The police say no arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing. Local politician Anne Rabbitte said: “The community felt so upset about it that they had to hold a public meeting because they lived in fear on that night in the airport, because they were afraid to walk down their street, they were told to stay inside doors, they didn’t know what was going on.”
