Hailstones the size of golf balls rained down in Spain earlier this month sending residents fleeing for cover. Footage shows several huge hail stones violently falling from the sky in the northern region.

Local residents who filmed the extreme weather took cover as the skies turned grey and the hails peppered the landscape. The massive pellets were reported to have caused extensive damage to cars leaving windscreens with gaping holes. It is unclear whether anyone was injured in the latest Spanish summer storm to hit the region, but some local sheep were killed in the freak weather event.

Earlier this month, footage emerged of a hailstorm that hit Almazan, in northern Spain. The hailstorm reportedly lasted around 45 minutes and caused flooding blocking roads – leading to traffic chaos. Local police and firefighters had to use snow ploughs to help clear the streets.
