A schoolgirl has died after taking a new super-strength legal high while at a park with friends. The 15-year-old suffered an adverse reaction from what is believed to be a new psychoactive substance in Newton Abbot, Devon. Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the teen’s death in the early hours of this morning.
Paramedics were reportedly called to Bakers Park where the girl was unconscious after taking the unknown drug. Devon and Cornwall Police said the girl died in Torbay District Hospital early this morning and her next of kin have been informed. Two other teenage girls were also taken to hospital as a precaution. Police suspect the girl had taken a brand new psychoactive substance – known as a legal high – and had suffered adverse reaction.
Today, locals expressed their shock at the death on social media. Toria Hyder wrote “HOW can this stuff still be called ‘legal highs’ when it’s now ILLEGAL to supply it and it kills?! Time to ban the phrase ‘legal’ for starters, it implies it’s safe and allowed. I hope the other girl will reveal where they got the drugs from, that person needs to be put away.”
