A swimming pool had to be closed after someone had a bout of diarrhoea while taking a dip.A pool in Bristol was evacuated of swimmers on Monday evening due to what has been described as a “diarrhoea issue”. It was then closed off to the public as “solid matter” was seen being removed by staff.
The incident happened at around 10pm at the Parish Wharf Leisure Centre in Portishead, Bristol. Around a third of the water in the pool had to be drained out and treated, cleaned and re-chlorinated afterwards.
A council spokesman told the Bristol Post: “The main pool at the centre was closed till 11am yesterday, as late on Monday there was a diarrhoea issue. The incident was spotted by a lifeguard and the pool immediately closed to the public. As much of the solid matter as possible was removed from the water.
“A third of the water in the pool has been drained and replaced. The water then went through four cycles of being pumped and filtered and the chlorine level increased. Pool cleaning protocols were followed.”
