The deaths of more than 100 children have been blamed on a sinister social media ‘suicide game’. Police are warning parents and schools to be vigilant about the Blue Whale Challenge, which encourages youngsters to embark on a potentially deadly self-harm challenge for 50 days.

The way teenagers ‘win’ the disturbing game is the kill themselves at the end of the challenge. It is reportedly being investigated in Russia as a possible factor in the recent deaths of two teenage girls and is believed to be responsible for the deaths of around 100 youngsters.

A police spokesman told the Cambridge News : “We are aware of the ‘Blue Whale Challenge’, where the internet is used to target young or vulnerable people. Our advice to parents around monitoring their child’s internet use remains the same; be vigilant and seek advice if you have any concerns. And schools have been asked to warn parents about the challenge.
