Armed police shot dead a group of dangerous out-of-control dogs which had attacked people in a town centre. Police were called to reports of six Pitbull type dogs out of control on Queens Park, Chorley New Road, Bolton. A 60-year-old woman had suffered a bite to the hand and a man was bitten on the leg. A dog also suffered serious injuries.
Armed police arrived on the scene in large numbers and a series of gunshots was heard. One of the dogs was seen running towards police before it was shot dead. A number of people hiding inside a property were heard to gasp as police shot the dogs.
Police say two dogs were humanely destroyed and two dogs were seized. Officers are currently searching the area for another dog who is believed to be part of the group. A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control in a public place and affray. He remains in police custody for questioning.
