Armed police shot out the tyres of a car before surrounding the vehicle and arresting two suspects during a dramatic chase in Lanarkshire. Marksmen armed with shotguns fired off the shots during a pre-planned operation on Wednesday.

The officers then swarmed round the car and pointed their weapons at two men inside before detaining them and taking them in to custody. A 38-year-old man was arrested in connection with drugs offences and 32-year-old man over alleged firearms offences.

The drama unfolded at around 7.30pm and was part of a specialist intelligence led operation involving armed police. Police watchdog, the Police Investigation & Review Commissioner (PIRC), are now looking into the incident and reassured the public that no-one else was put at risk.
