Katie Hopkins recently took on an entire city when she slammed the idea of a national sperm bank in Birmingham, claiming that Home Counties babies might be born with “thick Brummy accents” and that Birmingham donors were providing “dodgy stock.”

However Birmingham has hit back, warning Ms Hopkins that she should: “keep your pathetic narrow minded comments to yourself.”

Waheed Saleem, chairman of the West Midlands-based Lunar Society, a popular debating society is flying the flag in defence of his city describing Hopkins as “Another ‘southerner’ criticising our great City” and calling her “ill informed and outrageous”:

“Miss Hopkins please keep your pathetic narrow minded comments to yourself we are not interested nor care about what you have to say. The people of Birmingham are proud of our city and will continue to shout load about it. ‘Stand Up for Birmingham’.”

Mr Saleem is not the only Brummie to disagree with Ms Hopkins. Plenty of Birmingham folk have been using social media to express their displeasure with her comments. Hollywood actor David Harewood, who is proud of his home city and its heritage, tweeted: “Dear Kate Hopkins. Go and play up your own end. Perhaps you should think before opening your gob and check out our Walk of Stars on Broad St.”
