There was panic when a plane crashed in the middle of a busy motorway and then immediately burst into a deadly fireball.

The small aircraft, which was carrying two passengers, crashed near John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, this morning and sent smoke billowing over the motorway. Two people, a man and a woman, in their early sixties were taken to hospital with serious injuries after being pulled from the wreckage this morning covered in blood.Seconds after taking off from the airport, the pilot reportedly made a ‘Mayday’ call and told air traffic controllers he had lost an engine and would try to turn back to the airport. Authorities said it was extremely lucky no one else was injured as the motorway was busy at that time of day.
