A crane collapsed into a Primark building in Reading this afternoon – sparking chaos as shoppers were forced to evacuate. Witnesses reported seeing the 60-metre crane topple over slowly, leaving it leaning precariously against the building on West Street.
Police and the fire service rushed to the scene, as the crane was suspended several feet in the air. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: “Thames Valley Police was called to the scene in West Street at 1.52pm. The Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service and the South Central Ambulance Service are also at the scene. At present no-one has been reported injured. Shops and residencies in West Street have been evacuated to ensure the safety of all those working and living in the road.”
