Manchester United fans were killed after a power cable fell onto them as they watched the match last night – with fears ‘more than 30’ are dead. So far police have confirmed at least seven are dead and 10 more are critically injured.

The fans had been watching Marcus Rashford score the winner in United’s 2-1 victory over Belgians Anderlecht in the Europa League. Another witness told local television: “I was sitting at the front seats when I saw the reflection from the transformer … Everybody was running to go out from the door. As they were running, everybody was jam-packing themselves. Because the high tension cable fall on top, it contacted everybody there.”

The club this morning tweeted a tribute after the news broke of the tragedy last night. They said: “Our thoughts go out to the United fans, their friends and families affected by the tragedy in Calabar, Nigeria, yesterday.”
