A mum’s anguished screams could be heard across a housing estate after she found her seven-year-old daughter fatally injured in a field near a home in York. Desperate cries of ‘no, no, she’s my little girl’ could be heard by shocked neighbours as they claimed she screamed for help.
Police have arrested a 15-year-old girl over the tragedy after officers were called to an address in Woodthorpe, a residential area of the city at around 4.30pm yesterday. The girl, named locally as Katie, was found nearby with serious injuries and was rushed to hospital but died a short time later. Police have said they did “all they could” to help the little girl.
This morning, the victim’s grandparents arrived at the scene to lay flowers. A heart-wrenching note was left by the pair, that read: “Night night my darling Princess Katie love nana and grandad xx”. A police cordon is in place, with yellow police tape across the end of a footpath which runs down the side of one of the cul-de-sac’s large detached new-build houses.
