A boy whose mum thought he needed a pair of glasses has been heartbreakingly told he actually has a brain tumour and been given just months to live. Stephanie Downing discovered the tragic truth last week after she initially thought that her son Daniel, 5, needed glasses.
Daniel was initially referred to hospital by his opticians and on June 29 he had an MRI scan, which revealed the tumour. The tests revealed that Daniel had developed a very serious type of brain cancer known as pontine glioma.
Doctors gave Daniel just nine months to live and he was rushed to a specialist unit in Bristol to start chemotherapy. Daniel lives with mum and his older brother Jack, 8, in Plympton, Devon, where Stephanie works at Plympton Academy. Friends are hoping to raise £6,000 for the family so that they can stay with Daniel during his treatment.
