A mum who lost her eight-year-old son in a house fire two weeks ago has been found dead in a suspected suicide. Kelly-Anne Carter suffered serious burns in the late-night blaze which killed her son Lucas on October 30.
Kelly-Anne was found dead in a property just yards away in Sandbach, Cheshire, on Saturday morning. Lucas’s funeral is due to take place on Friday. Cheshire Police have confirmed they are not treating her death as suspicious.
The checkout worker was described as “devastated” by friends following the death of her son Lucas. Her only child was discovered by firefighters in an upstairs bedroom after a blaze broke out in their semi-detached home and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving in hospital. The pair had moved to the area together around six months ago.
A friend said following Lucas’ death: “He was her only child and she was totally devoted to him. Kelly-Anne’s partner Andy, 33, was described as being “utterly devastated” by his mum today. Pauline Hough, 61, said: “My son is absolutely devastated as we all are. At least she is with her son now. Andy is utterly distraught and still in complete shock.”
