The biggest sausage roll ever sold at a supermarket goes on sale today. The foot-long treat is weighs almost half a kilogram (455g), is twice as long and four times heavier as many of its competitors.
Morrisons will serve the new sausage rolls on special trays to hold their weight, rather than the usual paper bags. The snacks are made in-house using seasoned pork meat, wrapped in a crisp, golden flaky pastry. The company is hoping the sausage rolls, which cost £1, will be the perfect snack for football fans as the new season gets underway this month.
Morrisons Pie and Pastry Expert, Philippa Shaw, said the supermarket chain came up with the idea of the foot-long sausage roll in response to the big appetites of their customers, who wanted a larger version of the classic snack food. She added: “We sell one million freshly baked sausage rolls every week, but customers have asked for one that is even bigger – so we created this foot-long version.”
