There is sad news for fans of BBC drama Call The Midwife.Miranda Hart has confirmed that she will not be returning for the new series even though producers had previously said that the 43-year-old would be reprising her role as Camilla “Chummy” Fortescue-Cholmondely-Browne.
However, the much in-demand star says that she can’t fit it into her schedule. Delivering the blow on Twitter, she wrote: “News: It’s with a heavy heart that having shared Chummy’s return to CTM, I’ve not been able to birth (pun) the schedule to make it work.” She signed off to her 2.27million followers with two kisses.
In a follow-up, she added: “Truly sad not to be playing Chummy this year but fans are in for a real treat with Dame Harriet Walter as a new cast member and more besides.
It’s not the first time that she has quit the show. Her character was written out in series four with the explanation given that Chummy had been sent to a mother and baby unit.
