Police have launched a murder investigation after a teenage girl who went missing on Friday was found dead at a reservoir earlier today. Locals are shocked at the discovery of an 18-year-old girl murdered after a “brutal attack”. The tragic lass was found dead in Orwell Water Park this morning. Her identity has not yet been confirmed.
Worried family raised the alarm at 7.20pm on Friday after she failed to come home from Winstanley College. Friends said they last saw her at the reservoirs in Wigan and police found her body at around 2.30am today – just seven hours after she was reported missing. Greater Manchester Police said her dissappearance was “extremely out of character”.
Det Supt Howard Millington, from Greater Manchester Police, said: “First of all my thoughts are with the woman’s family at this devastating time. This was a brutal attack on a young woman, the type rarely seen in Greater Manchester. We have a full investigation team working on finding out what exactly happened to her and to try and find the person who did this.”
