A college has been put in “lockdown” due to a security issue, say police. Police received a report at 10.50am this morning that Bury College in Greater Manchester had received a threat.

Teachers were told to stay in their classrooms and some students were also being held inside the building. Police have since said that a precautionary evacuation was conducted. One witness from the scene said armed police were patrolling the area.

A GMP spokesman said: “At 10.50am on Friday 24 March 2017 police were made aware of a threat made to Bury College, Market Street, Bury. Officers are in attendance to establish the full circumstances. A precautionary evacuation has been conducted.” Police are now searching each building for a threat, reports say from the scene.
