A man brutally attacked his wife in front of their two sons and then took the time to post a frightening status update to his Facebook profile.
32 year-old Keith Belajonas, accused his 28 year-old wife Christina of cheating on him; there was a heated argument, which was heard by the couple’s neighbours who called the police. Before the police could arrive, however, there were gunshots in the property.
The police arrived at the couple’s Philadelphia home at about 2.30am and found Christina’s body; she had been stabbed multiple times and shot in the head. However, in between her death and the police’s arrival, her killer had found time to update Facebook:
“Had an argument. She was cheating on me. I won.”
Belajonas then fled with their children, Christopher, four and Robert, five. He took them to New York, leaving them with his brother and drove away. Once he had parked up down a dead-end street, Belajonas then turned the gun on himself, shooting himself in the head. The police discovered his dead body inside his car which was full of knives and beer cans.
Superintendent Michael Chitwood of the Upper Darby Police said that he was sure the children had witnessed their father murder their mother: “One of the children states, ‘Is mommy dead? Is mommy dead?’ Apparently the older of the two is telling everybody about ‘Daddy killed Mommy’ type thing. So obviously that’s very traumatic for them.”
The children are now in the care of the social services while the grandparents decide on their long-term care plan.
