A fire erupted on board a ferry just moments after it left a popular British holiday resort. Pictures show flames from the Med Star vessel shortly after it left the Greek island Rhodes yesterday. Reports suggest 32 people, 30 of them crew and two drivers, along with 33 vehicles were on board at the time.
A total of 20 were said to have evacuated into a lifeboat, while 12 remained on board to fight the blaze. This morning the vessel was adrift east of the island.
Rhodes is a popular destination for British holiday-makers, welcoming around two million visitors a year who enjoy its sandy beaches, clear water and ancient ruins.
