A woman who discovered she was pregnant couldn’t wait to tell her mum the good news – but just half-an-hour later she was dead.
Hannah Sanders and her fiancé Lee Palmer had just discovered that Hannah was expecting and they had just collected the keys to their new flat.
On the way home, Hannah’s black Renault Clio spun out of control on a damp patch of road and straight into the path of an oncoming Toyota.
Both Hannah and Lee were killed in the crash although the 75 year-old female driver of the other vehicle survived.
Hannah’s mother has been devastated by the death of her daughter and her fiancé; Pat Sanders, 59, said: “It’s tragic that she and Lee never got to tell us their wonderful news but they didn’t have the time. They would have been so happy and excited. Being a mum and marrying Lee was all Hannah ever wanted.
“She would have made a wonderful mother and Lee a smashing Dad. They were so in love and had everything to live for, so to lose their lives when they were at their happiest is too sad for words.”
Pat, her husband Dave, 52 and Lee’s mother, Madeleine discovered the tragic news of the pregnancy when police passed on a printout of Hannah’s online status updates and messages.
Pat said: “We couldn’t believe it. Hannah was so obviously thrilled and there were so many messages of congratulations – poignantly, some were even being posted after she’d died.
“But then as news of the deaths spread, people began posting RIP condolences. One minute Hannah and Lee were celebrating the new life inside her and the next they were gone.”
Grieving Pat continued: “We know Hannah and Lee would not have wanted to go on without the other. It’s comforting knowing that for the last precious half an hour they were together, they were happier than they’d ever been.”
