Police have made an arrest after a man allegedly sliced a young woman’s throat open in a shopping centre car park in broad daylight. Dockside outlet centre in Chatham, Kent, was put on lockdown after the woman was reportedly attacked inside a car this morning.

Shocked witnesses reported seeing at least 10 police vehicles and other emergency crews at the scene after the victim had her “throat slit open”. One said there was lots of blood and people could be heard shouting, while another said bystanders were “quite panicked” amid terrorism fears.

It is claimed that a man shut the woman in the car near the centre’s Odeon cinema, before allegedly attacking her at around 11am. Kent Police confirmed they had been called to a report of a “serious assault”. A force spokesman said a man had been arrested at the scene and that officers do not believe there to be any further threat to the public.
