The first picture of the “loving” mum-of-three who was killed when a suspected drink driver mowed down her family in the street has been released. Debbie Masters, 37, passed away in hospital after the tragedy in the East Sussex village of Battle on Sunday afternoon, police said.
She was out walking with her family – including an infant in a pram and two other children – when they were struck by a Volkswagen Beetle. The black car reportedly careered off the road and crashed into a café, trapping customers inside and pinning Debbie against the shop window. Police and paramedics were called to the scene at around 1.55pm. They found the mum suffering from “critical” injuries, while her husband, Ian, 50, was discovered with a serious head injury. The three children and the woman driver sustained shock and minor injuries in the incident in Upper Lake, Sussex Police said. Police said the driver was being investigated over reports she may have been “under the influence of alcohol” at the time of the crash. Despite medics’ best efforts, Debbie later passed away in hospital, leaving behind her three young sons who survived the disaster. Her youngest child is believed to be just seven months old.
