Vandals have targeted a memorial to murdered soldier Lee Rigby just days before the fourth anniversary of his murder. Lee Rigby was murdered outside the barracks by extremists Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale on May 22nd, 2013. Both of his killers are currently serving life sentences.
Flags were damaged and ripped off railings opposite the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, south east London, where the 25-year-old was killed in May 2013. The incident is the second on the site since Christmas after a flag was taken in January.
Police were called at 11:44am this morning to a report that flags at the Lee Rigby memorial in Hillreach, Charlton SE15 – opposite the Royal Artillery Barracks – had been damaged, with some possibly stolen. Officers have attended and are making enquiries, and a crime scene is now in place.
