A four-year-old girl who was struck in an hit-and-run while walking with her grandmother has died. Violet-Grace Youens’s organs will be donated to save other children in a critical condition , her mother has said. Struck on Friday, the little girl passed away on Saturday evening.

On Mothering Sunday her grief-stricken mum shared an emotional post on Facebook. She wrote: “Thank you for all your well wishes. She was just too poorly. However, my brave baby girl saved two lives by donating her kidneys and pancreas. I am truly heartbroken but proud of my little fighter.”

Violet was hit while walking with her grandmother in St Helens, Merseyside on Friday afternoon. Angela French, 55, remains in serious but stable condition. Officers have appealed for help to track down two men seen walking away from the car after the incident and have released CCTV of them.
